Understanding the Support at Home Program: What It Means for You

The Australian Government's Support at Home Program, launching on 1 July 2025, is set to transform how home care services are delivered. These changes aim to simplify access, improve transparency, and ensure high-quality care for everyone. Here's what you need to know about the upcoming updates and how they may impact you.

1. Keeping Your Current Service Provider

Good news! If you're happy with your current provider, there's no need to change. You can continue receiving care and support from the same team you trust under the new program.

2. What’s Changing?

Quarterly Budgets

Your annual Home Care Package funding will now be divided into four quarterly budgets:

  • Unused Funds: You can roll over up to $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly allocation to the next quarter, whichever is greater.

  • Cap on Rollovers: Any amount above $1,000 will not roll over and will be forfeited.

Defined Service List

A clear and defined list of services will outline what you can access under the program. This list ensures you know exactly what is included and excluded. If your current services are no longer covered, we will notify you in advance. View the full service list here.

Price Caps

To ensure fairness, the government will introduce maximum price caps for services starting 1 July 2026. In the meantime, HomeCare Australia will adjust its pricing as part of our annual review on 1 July 2025, and we’ll notify you of any changes.

No Separate Administration Fees

Management costs will now be included in the service prices. This change makes it easier to track your funding and eliminates the separate 15% administration fee currently charged.

Care Management Funding

Under the new system:

  • 10% of your quarterly budget will be allocated for care management.

  • This is a reduction from the 20% currently charged, giving you more flexibility in your budget.

Assistive Technology and Home Modifications

Funding for equipment (e.g., walkers, ramps) and home modifications will be handled separately. These needs will be addressed during your care assessment and won’t impact your regular budget.
